Chairman's Transmission

From MGA!, JULY/AUGUST 2010, VOLUME 35 No 5

What an incredible GT! Stay tuned to the next issue of MGA! as well as namgar.com to hear all the details and see all of the pictures. I want to thank all of you that attended and a special thanks to our hosts, The Milwaukee and Great Lakes MG Motor Car Group. Their hard work and dedication really paid off in this fantastic event.

I am pleased to announce the latest addition to the NAMGAR Board of Directors. Melissa Hay, a NAMGAR member from Farmers Branch, Texas, has stepped up to the challenge of the Marketing & Communications Manager position. This is an exciting evolutionary time for NAMGAR and with Melissa’s energy and ideas, it will be even better. Welcome aboard!

There has been a bit of confusion recently (probably my fault!) over the Directors and Officers liability insurance policy that NAMGAR is able to obtain for its Chapters. The process is a little bit convoluted, so let me try to explain. This is an elective policy and it does cost the Chapter a minimal premium. The current policy goes into effect June 1 of each calendar year. The underwriter, which is the actual company that provides the insurance as opposed to the insurance agent, i.e. Hagerty, reviews the policy each year, and the number of applicants, to determine the risk, and whether they want to underwrite the policy. What this forces NAMGAR to do is to inquire, and invoice, those interested Chapters, well in advance of the policy dates. This allows for each Chapter to follow their own internal procedures to decide if they want the coverage. NAMGAR submits the list, and a check for the premium, to Hagerty. This is sent to the underwriter for review, and then NAMGAR is notified by Hagerty that the policy has been written, and we then wait for a declarations page showing that the policy has been written and which Chapters are currently covered. The program does allow for additional Chapters to request D&O coverage at anytime for a prorated premium. Since the policy is already in force, adding these Chapters to the Declarations page is an easy and timely task. I appreciate your patience in working with this cumbersome process. It will be streamlined in the future. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Last issue I announced that my term as Chairman was expiring. I asked for members interested in applying and interviewing for the position to contact me prior to July 1. To those members who responded, thank you very much for your interest. Due to press deadlines, I am unable to tell you at this time who will be my replacement, but I will do so as soon as possible. It is my goal to have all Board and Staff positions filled as needed and ready to hit the ground running at our annual Board of Directors meeting during the first quarter of 2011.

And while you are thinking of 2011, it is not too early to think about the North American Council of MG Registers MG2011 in Reno: an all register event where we will be having our GT-36, June 13-16. Lots more information to come. There is also a special rallye that will lead up to MG2011. The Rallye to Reno. Tracing US50 from coast to coast. That will definitely be something to put on your schedule. Stay tuned to MGA! for more.

See you there!

I was reading the registrar "Numbering the MGA Part 2" by John Drake and have the following information to submit to support the accuracy of the database. I own a 1960 MGA Roadster and it has been in my family since purchased in 1960. I am 100% positive the Vin numbers ect. are correct. The Vin Number is GHNL 86600 / Body Number 18317 / Motor 18170. Some day I will check the transmission as it will need rebuilt at some point and I think the number is on the top as I recall. I am a long time Namgar member and the car registration is 3674.
