Chairman's Transmission
From MGA!, NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2011, VOLUME 37 / NO 2
Windtones of Change
Like the unmistakable sound of a Windtone horn announcing an MGA’s arrival, so too is the familiar white envelope in our mailboxes that indicates another great issue of MGA! has just arrived. And as every issue of MGA! calls our attention with its familiarity, we are truly captivated by the new articles, photos, and change each issue brings. Steve Mazurek took this art to a new level in his three years as Editor, and as his term has come to an end, I would like to thank Steve, on behalf of all of NAMGAR, for a job well done.
But just as MGAs and Magnettes move to a new home and receive personal touches from their new caretakers, so will our magazine under the care of NAMGAR’s newest Editor. Please welcome Mr. Michael Tooke! Mike is relatively new to the MGA world, but has a rich background in the automotive field in addition to graphic and display design. He has already demonstrated a great new look and feel in this first issue, and it will be exciting to see where Michael takes MGA! in the coming years. Welcome aboard, Mike!
Changes are also coming in the Copy Editor’s seat as longtime volunteer, Diane Mazurek, is retiring. Diane, thank you for all the years of great service to NAMGAR. The entire Board and Staff sincerely appreciate all you have done to make our organization great.
And so, I am pleased to announce that Gail Lenhard is now getting settled in as our new Copy Editor. Gail brings a lot of experience in this area, from writing children’s books, to editing several other publications. She will be a great fit to NAMGAR, although she will defanatley have a tuff challange in katching all of my spellling eras.
We also have one more new volunteer to announce. Dave McCann has offered to assist the Tilburys with some of our website’s technical updates. So next time you see Dave, let him buy you a beer, and he can explain the technical details of what he will be doing.
Looking ahead to 2012, the NAMGAR Board is already preparing for its January Board Meeting. In addition to developing a budget and other routine business, the Board also discusses any new ideas and concerns you may have.
One of the highlights of our meeting is reviewing nominations made by you for the Mac Spears Founders Award. This award was created in the name of one of NAMGAR’s founding members and first Chairman, McGehee “Mac” Spears. Each nominee is identified as someone who is a leader amongst his or her peers and takes a leadership role in ensuring that the MG “Marque of Friendship” is not just a slogan, but an actual way of life.
A nominee should be someone who gives more than he or she receives and should truly encompass the MG spirit, by actively promoting MGs, their club(s), Chapter(s), or NAMGAR. This award is not necessarily given every year; nor do the recipients have to be NAMGAR members. It is to be an award given from the heart by NAMGAR. If you would like to nominate someone, please send me a note by January 1st.
There has been some discussion of revisiting the parameters of the Altered A Class in a GT. The Board welcomes your viewpoint on exactly what qualifies a car to be in this class. Or another way to look at it….What should or should not preclude a car from competing in its regular production class (1500, 1600, Mk II, etc.). If you have thoughts on this, or any other NAMGAR matter, please contact me at Chairman@NAMGAR.com prior to January 1st.
As 2011 comes to a close, I wish to thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm. We had a great year together, from Key West to the Rallye to Reno, GT-36, and MG 2011. Two great Fall Regionals and numerous local Chapter events. You’ve provided interesting articles and memorable photos for our magazine and website. You’ve offered to assist when needed, and we’ve all been enriched by each other’s company and friendship. As the holiday season approaches, I wish all the best for you and your family, and the Windtones of 2012 ring prosperous.
