Dee Johnson

NAMGAR Treasurer

Hi, I am Dee Johnson your new Treasurer.

I am married and have 2 grown children and 5 grandchildren, and I am an MG Magnette Nut! I first got involved early 60s, when you could buy a new (!) MG. It was a MG 1100. I learned to drive a stick shift and to double-clutch on that car. We did a lot of rallying and ran the poor little car into the ground. As the real life kept going the MG life stopped, until the middle 80s when I bought an MGB. When I married Wayne we created a blended family of MGs.

He had Magnettes and a WA, but in Wayne’s past MG life was a MG-TD, MG-VA and an MGA. He had been a long time member of NAMGAR. We bought an MG-Y which we took to Indy in 1996. In 1999 we started a restoration on a Magnette ZB Varitone, now almost eight years later, we are still working on it.

Meanwhile I always had a special place in my heart for the 1100. We found one here in San Diego. It had an automatic transmission, which was different. Then a Magnette ZA showed up. Orphan cars just find their way to the Johnson’s house. We stared going to GTs again. In 2003 we bought the Magnette Mark III. It always brings a smile to our faces when we hear some one say “I didn’t know that MG made one like that.” So our little saying “Real MGs Have 4 Doors!”
