John W. Drake, Jr.
NAMGAR Registrar
My name is John Drake, and I am proud to have been your Registrar now for over eight years. It is a rewarding position that I enjoy doing very much. I have been married to Rita for over seventeen years. Together we have two sons, two daughters and four wonderful grandsons.
I got my first MGA after serving a year stationed in Germany with the Air Force and just being reassigned to New Mexico. I wanted to get a “sports car” when I got back to the “States”, so while at home, I bought my first MGA. It was a 1959 red MGA Coupe. I owned it for only a day and a half, and then took off cross country on a 1700+ mile trip to my new assignment in Mew Mexico. (See, you all… only a bit more than a day and I was off on a cross country trip). Of course I did the sequence wrong, as I was in Germany without the car, then came back to the desert, and bought a closed top sports car. Oh my... when you’re young!! I have owned in my lifetime one 1959 MGA Roadster, two 1959 MGA Coupes, one 1958 ZB Varitone Magnette, and one 1979 MGB Roadster.
I am an avid bowler, snow skier, and enjoy being retired from the Portland, Oregon Fire Bureau after working there for twenty six years as a line Firefighter and a Fire Inspector.
I strive very hard to keep your records as current as I can, so I tend to “bug” you about them from time to time. That too is just my nature: just trying to best serve you and NAMGAR any way I can.
