Mike Tooke, current Communications Manager, has expressed his wish to step down from his role as Communications Manager in order to focus his time as Editor on the production of the award winning MGA! magazine.

The NAMGAR Board is therefore seeking a volunteer to step into the role of Communications Manager. The function and responsibilities of the position are listed below.  If you are interested in this position or have further questions on the role, please contact Carol Shamonsky, NAMGAR Chairman.

These must be consistent with the evolving NAMGAR brand and include, but are not limited to, MGA! magazine, NAMGAR website(s), eNews!, books, CDs/DVDs, non-NAMGAR events, rallies, show, other publications, etc.
  • Evaluating new and changing communications technologies and recommending how they could be used in meeting NAMGAR’s goals.
  • Reviewing issues of MGA! magazine, content of the website and other print and electronic media disseminated by NAMGAR to assure that they meet the established policies and goals. This should be viewed as mandatory for any new NAMGAR branded products.
  • Managing the staff positions of Editor, Marketing &Advertising Manager, and Internet Coordinator.
  • Attending the annual NAMGAR Board of Directors meeting and the annual Get-Together (GT).
  • Presenting a Communications Report at the annual Board meeting.
  • Reviewing event listing requests to determine relevance to NAMGAR and disseminating them to the Vice Chairman, MGA! Editor, the Chapter & Interest Group Coordinators and the Internet Coordinators for publishing in a timely manner.

The Communications Manager must own a personal computer and be familiar with the operation of a word processing application (i.e. MS Word), a financial spreadsheet application (i.e. MS Excel), an electronic mail application (i.e. MS Outlook), and have access to the Internet.

To be considered for the position, one must:

  • Be a NAMGAR member in good standing.
  • Have demonstrated leadership skills at the local or national level.
  • Be willing to serve as Communications Manager for a period of three (3) years.

At the end of the Communications Manager’s initial term in office, he or she may elect to resign or, at the discretion of the Board of Directors, remain in the position on a year-to-year basis. A change in Communications Manager becomes effective once a replacement candidate is identified and installed into the position.

The Communications Manager can expect to spend a minimum of twenty (20) hours per month fulfilling his or her duties.
