Is Editor of MGA! Magazine in Your Future?

Note from the current Editor of MGA! Magazine, Steve Mazurek.
Somewhere in my corporate past, a mentor once told me: “To advance, you must prepare to be replaced” or some words to that effect. I’m not sure that in today’s corporate climate that adages like this are still relevant. But what this person was saying basically is that you should continue to look forward and not become complacent in your existing position nor should you make yourself appear to be irreplaceable. So in my preparation to advance, I must prepare to be replaced.
This issue marks the half-way point in my three year term as MGA! Magazine’s Editor. I’m looking ahead towards other interests and opportunities. This job has been a challenge and a learning experience: there are other things that interest me and are also challenging. No matter how much you think you know, there is always something more to be learned. While these interests are not incompatible with NAMGAR, they are not compatible when it comes to commitment and time spent.
My last magazine as Editor of MGA! will be the September/ October 2011 (V37N01) issue. While some may think that the third quarter of 2011 is a long way off, consider that this is only nine more magazines! This is a firm commitment on my part.
I know that amongst the membership there are those with equal or greater capability: we’ve corresponded. And sometimes, a little less capability can be compensated for with a great deal of commitment and desire. If you believe that you would like to edit MGA!, let’s start a conversation.
In the end, I will not be the definitive decision maker regarding my replacement. But, I think I will have the Board’s ear.
