2012 MG Jamboree 18
NAMGAR Makes the Scene at MG Jamboree 18
The Florida Suncoast MG Car Club is hosting MG Jamboree 18 at the Riverside Resort in Homosassa, Florida from Thursday, November 1 to Sunday, November 4, 2012.
This year, for the first time, the Club welcomes a visit from North American MGA Register, making this event a true Regional GT. The MG Jamboree is a casual gathering of British car enthusiasts, which dovetails nicely with the laid-back style of NAMGAR Regionals. Homosassa, on the West coast of Central Florida where the nineteenth century gently bumps up against the twenty-first, is the perfect setting.
Regular MG Jamboree participants who are accustomed to arriving on Friday afternoon can do so and still enjoy the normal program of activities. However, because this event is also a NAMGAR Regional, you may choose to arrive on Thursday, or Wednesday if you prefer.
Folks arriving on Thursday can unwind, get acquainted with the Riverside Resort and enjoy a crackerstyle lunch at one of the local restaurants. Self-guided driving tours, ranging up to 100 miles, are provided which lead to historical points of interest, local scenery and wildlife as well as area tourist attractions. Later in the afternoon, saddle-up for a ride to one of this area’s unique restaurants, The Izaak Walton Lodge in Yankeetown. The Lodge was first built in 1924 by a “Yankee” as a hunting and fishing lodge for his northern buddies. It now houses a gourmet restaurant. Native wildlife can be seen from the dining room or the veranda overlooking the Withlacoochee River.
After breakfast on Friday morning, there is a guided drive on the “Tail of the Gator.” This two-lane road has been written up in motoring magazines as a favorite and leads to the village of Ozello. Ozello is one of the many fishing villages along the Gulf Coast where life has remained the same for over 100 years. We’ll stop for lunch at Peck’s Old Port Cove Restaurant before returning to the Resort. The afternoon can be spent visiting with friends, swimming or doing a self-guided drive before the kick-off “Dinner and a Date Night” at six o’clock.
Saturday is packed with driving tours, a manatee watching cruise on the Homosassa River, a car show where all marques are welcome, a Ladies Tea and capped off with a themed “Oscar Night” dinner. On Sunday, we pack up for the trip home and say farewell until the next MG Jamboree in 2014.
